Kevin MacCuish - Host City speaker

Kevin MacCuish

Position: Head of Olympic Games and Major Events, UCI

Kevin leads the team which guides the successful planning and delivery of the events for the cycling disciplines included in Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games, and of the UCI’s major events; these include the multi-discipline UCI Cycling World Championships held every 4 years, which was first staged in 2023 in Glasgow and across Scotland, and the annual UCI Road World Championships.

For the first time ever, the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships brought 13 individual UCI World Championships together into a cohesive 11-day mega-event that hosted more than 7’000 athletes at multiple venues in Glasgow and across Scotland. The next editions in 2027 in Haute Savoie – Mont Blanc, France, and 2031 in Trentino, Italy, will include 20 individual UCI World Championships, with more than 10’000 athletes expected to participate.

As concerns the Olympic Games, with events in 5 different disciplines, Cycling is one of the largest and most diverse Olympic sports in terms of athlete quota, range of different types of events, and the number of different Games venues. Most recently, working within the new delivery model for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the UCI stretched beyond its traditional International Federation role to also collaborate with Paris 2024 to plan and deliver the events for 3 of the 5 Olympic disciplines.

During his 25-year career in sport management, Kevin has worked in a variety of different roles within the sport of Cycling, including multiple Olympic Games and UCI World Championships. His experience and interest are in the conception, planning and delivery of multi-venue and multi-discipline events. He has also worked to successfully integrate new disciplines into the Cycling family, most notably the newest Olympic cycling discipline, BMX Freestyle, and Cycling E-sports.
